PROJECT

Immigration in Portugal has increased significantly in recent years, bringing notable economic and social changes (TPN/Lusa, 2025). This project examines this wave of immigration in Portugal, with a focus on labour activity in the city of Lisbon. In particular, it highlights the ‘invisible’ and often undervalued work performed by immigrants, taking into account their challenges and the current situation of the country and the city.

The Atlas of Immigrant Invisible Work aims to develop a systematic collection documenting the presence of immigrant labour in the Lisbon region, as well as its contributions. By establishing the atlas as a visual and informational mapping, the project seeks to highlight the relevance of immigrants to both the city and the country, transforming the invisible into the visible.

INTERVIEWS

All interviews were conducted informally on the streets of Lisbon, approaching workers in their daily lives. Permission was requested to conduct the interview and record the audio, with the aim of contributing to an academic project. The surveys seek to present, in a direct way, the voice of immigrants, highlighting their work and living conditions.

I would like to thank everyone who generously contributed to the interviews.
